Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate-45 and the Hwy. 19 southbound direct connecter are scheduled to close next week.
Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation announced last week, that all lanes of the interstate will close from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night beginning Monday, April 15 and lasting though Thursday, April 18 and then from Monday, April 22 through Sunday, May 5.
All northbound I-45 traffic must exit using the new Hwy. 75 exit ramp north of Park Road 40, while all southbound I-45 traffic must exit using Exit 114, Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. Southbound Hwy. 19 to I-45 southbound traffic must exit at Hwy. 75.
"This closure is necessary to place overhang brackets, concrete on the bridge beams and bridge deck panels on the Veteran’s Memorial Parkway Bridge over I-45," said Bobby Colwell with TxDOT.
Message Boards have been placed advising of the closure and detour signs will be placed along the detour routes to alert and guide traffic through the detour.
The construction of the 6 miles widening project, Segment 1B of I-45 from 0.5 miles north of Vick Springs Road to 0.3 miles north of Hwy. 19 is underway. This project will widen I-45 to six lanes and will replace the State Park Road 40 bridges and southbound SH 19 Flyover.
During the 3-year project, multiple lane shifts and relocation of traffic will take place at various times to accommodate construction activity. IH-45 and SB SH 19 will also be closed at various times for safety of the traveling public and construction workers.
"The reconstruction of I-45 will take place in two major phases. Phase 1 is under way and will include the addition of Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, northbound Hwy. 19 bridge and a new southbound Hwy. 19 flyover. Phase 2, will include replacement of the Park Road 40 bridges," Colwell added.
