Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath volleyball teams kicked off District 10-4A action over the last week by starting 0-2 in one of the toughest districts in the state.

Rockwall lost its opener 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-19) to McKinney North on Friday at RHS gymnasium. Ashlynn Broussard and Melanie Pugsley led the Lady Jackets with eight kills each, Becca Floyd posted 10 assists and Allie Cecil booked 14 digs.

The Lady Jackets followed their district opener with a 3-1 defeat at McKinney on Tuesday to drop to 0-2 in 10-4A play. Pugsley put up 11 kills, Cecil 14 digs and Loren Kelly 13 asists in the loss.

And, it doesn’t get any easier for Rockwall, which squares off against district leader and No. 1 state-ranked Richardson Pearce tonight at RHS gymnasium.

Rockwall-Heath also kicked off district play with two losses, dropping its opener to volleyball power Highland Park 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-21) on Friday and losing a 5-set heartbreaker to McKinney North at RHS gymnasium on Tuesday.

North won the first game 30-28 in an intense battle that set the tone for the rest of the match; Heath bounced back to take a 23-14 lead in the second game and finished it off with a 25-20 victory; North took the third game 25-19; RHHS claimed the fourth 25-21; and North won a back-and-forth fifth game 15-10 to give the Lady Hawks an 0-2 district start.

Regina Tillis pounded 17 kills in the loss, Caley Carpenter put up 11 kills and three blocks, Monica Shockley had eight kills and two blocks, Ciara Ryan-Todd recorded eight kills and one block, Aubree Baune booked six kills and one block and Ashley McClintic added three kills and three blocks to lead RHHS.

Claire Carpenter had two aces and one kill, Rachel Hilton added two aces, Morgan Cook one ace and one block, Kelsie Murphy one ace and Morgan Hawkins posted 20-plus assists.

Heath will attempt to pick up its first 10-4A win tonight when the Lady Hawks host Wylie East (0-2) at RHHS gymnasium.
