Several RISD-approved summer sports camps kicked off on Monday with most having large numbers in attendance.

Outdoor campers had to manage temperatures in the 90s, but faced no rain or adverse weather conditions.

The RHS Tennis Camp opened on Monday at the Wilkerson-Sanders Tennis Facility with approximately 120 campers, tying last year for most participants ever.

Ages 5-11 started at 8:30 a.m. in the coolest part of the day, with players 12-14 going from 10 a.m. until noon.

The Rockwall-Heath Volleyball Camp, with three daily sessions from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., 1-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at the RHHS gymnasiums, had over 175 campers. The camp, which is always one of the largest, had 15 coaches assisting with the three sessions.

The Lady Jacket Softball Camp kicked off as scheduled on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Campbell Complex fields with ages 6-incoming freshmen attending.

Former RHS softball standouts Ashton Atwell, Carlie Jenkins, Amanda Harmon, Kennedy Harrison, Kelsey Harmon, Audrey Farfan and Stormy Herrera helped coach participants at the camp.

Other camps running this week included Rockwall Boys Basketball at the RHS gymnasium, Heath Boys Soccer at the RHHS practice fields and the Heath Wrestling Camp at the Heath wrestling room.

Camps scheduled for next week include Rockwall-Heath Boys Basketball, Rockwall-Heath Football, Rockwall-Heath Softball, Rockwall-Heath Girls Soccer, Rockwall-Heath Boys Soccer, Rockwall Boys Gymnastics, Rockwall Girls Basketball and Rockwall Tennis (Second session).
