AUSTIN — Rockwall junior Ava Whitaker won a state title in the 100-yard butterfly.
Whitaker claimed the race at the University Interscholastic League swimming and diving championships at the Lee & Joe Jamail Swimming Center. She clocked a time of 53.03 seconds to win by more than a second.
Whitaker was also 13th in the 200-yard individual medley and swam on Rockwall’s 200-yard individual medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay that placed 12th and 13th. She has verbally committed to swim at SMU.
Rockwall scored 49 points to place 16th in the team standings. Southlake Carroll won with 243 points and The Woodlands was second at 277.
Karly Merriott of Rockwall-Heath won the girls consolation finals in the 500-yard freestyle to place ninth overall. Her time was 4:56.50.
Rockwall-Heath placed 37th in the girls team standings with nine points.
Grayson Tidwell of Rockwall-Heath was 18th in the boys 100-yard backstroke.
