Rockwall’s softball team racked up three wins versus one loss and outscored opponents 42-4 in a strong outing at the Forney ISD Invitational last weekend.

The Lady Jackets opened with a 12-0 win over Italy and a 15-0 victory over Marshall on Thursday.

Maddie Taylor picked up both wins on the mound with a complete-game shutout against Italy and three shutout innings against Marshall. Kayla Vandergriff closed, keeping the shutout intact.

Ashton Atwell hit triples in both games and went 7-for-7 at the plate. Kendall Sauter and Carlie Jenkins also pounded triples against Marshall and Cyndi Bertrand and Hayley Baker banged doubles.

RHS’s only loss came on Friday when Arlington Martin came from behind to defeat the ladies 4-3.

Rockwall built a 3-0 lead in the second inning, gave up one run in the third with two errors and three runs in the fifth on three singles and a double.

Vandergriff took the loss, giving up seven hits, no walks and three strikeouts. The freshman hurler went 3-up, 3-down for two innings before giving up one run in the third and three in the fifth.

Bertrand went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, Bailey Wallace was 2-for-3 with two singles, Bailey Frierson was 1-for-2, Atwell 1-for-2 with an RBI and Baker 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Rockwall then dominated Tyler Lee 12-0 with freshman Emily Cowan booking the win on the mound.

Frierson hit an inside-the-park home run and Wallace pounded a triple and a double to lead the way at the plate.

Heath wins three, loses one at Carrollton/Farmers Branch Tourney

Rockwall-Heath’s softball team posted three solid wins against one loss at the Carrollton/Farmers Branch Tournament last weekend.

The Lady Hawks knocked off Fossil Ridge 4-1 to kick off the tournament on Thursday and followed with a big 8-0 victory over Rice High School. Madie Rice blasted an inside-the-park home run over the left fielder to lead the way.

The ladies then struggled with consistency in Friday’s 14-4 loss to Grand Prairie before rolling over Carrollton Ranchview 8-1.

According to head coach Christin Thompson,”We had a strong pitching performance from Sarah Stewart against Ranchview, Emily Coltharp was also strong behind the plate and the girls all played well defensively.”

The Lady Hawks would have been in the Gold Bracket on Saturday, but the tournament was canceled due to rain.

RHHS and Rockwall will both compete at the Allen Invitational Tournament this weekend.
