ROCKWALL — The Rockwall Lady Yellowjackets moved up to first place in District 11-6A volleyball with a 25-23, 27-25, 20-25, 17-25, 15-10 victory on Friday over their crosstown rivals, the Rockwall-Heath Lady Hawks.
Rockwall improved to 9-1 in district play with its second win in three matches against the Lady Hawks. Rockwall also won 25-17, 25-20 at the Northwest tournament on Aug. 17. Heath won 25-20, 25-20, 25-13 in a district match on Sept. 24 in Rockwall.
Heath suffered its first loss in district play, falling to 8-1.
Bomi Oguniari and Ava Quartrone led Rockwall in kills with 11 each, while Feyi Oguniari tallied nine and Avery Reid eight.
Mckenzie Johnson served for a team-high three aces for Rockwall, while Piper Kelley and Kim Tolman each had two.
Bomi Oguniari was tops for Rockwall in blocks with five, followed by Avery Reid with four.
Mckenzie Johnson sparked the Rockwall defense with 15 digs followed by Tolman with 14. Jaden Dougal, Quartrone and Kelley each tallied nine.
Heath bounced back from that loss to whip North Mesquite, 25-14, 25-15, 25-11, on Tuesday night. The Lady Hawks are now 19-20 for the season and 9-1 in district play, tying them for first place with Rockwall.
Rockwall won a non-district match on Tuesday over Arlington Martin, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-11, to go 22-16 for the season.
