The Rockwall-Heath Red team racked up a 20-15 win over the Black squad Thursday at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium in the Hawk's first-ever spring scrimmage.

A 13-8 fourth quarter broke open a 7-7 deadlock and catapulted the Red to victory. Speedster Kendial Lawrence dashed in from 31 yards out for the decisive touchdown with 1:34 left in the game.

The final score capped a banner night for Lawrence, who tallied the first TD of the game on a 55-yard run in the second period. He also had a 34-yard score in the first negated by a penalty call.

Greg Deloache booked the Red's other TD on a four-yard blast with 7:06 left on the fourth quarter clock.

Tailback Matt Tanner scored both Black team touchdowns with showcase runs. He posted his first six points with 4:25 remaining in the second period on a 24-yard sprint down the left sideline to even the score at 7-7.

He closed out the scoring with a 43-yard TD run in the waning minutes of the fourth. J.B. Foote tacked on the final two points on a conversion pass from QB Drew Hollingshead.

The Black team narrowly missed another TD when a fumble from inside the Red 1-yard line was recovered in the end zone by James Hart of the Red team for a touchback.

The Hawks will report for 2-a-day practices Aug. 14.

They will play a full varsity schedule in the fall and will be in District 10-4A with defending state champ Highland Park, Richardson Pearce, Greenville, Forney, Terrell, West Mesquite and Mesquite Poteet.
