ALLEN — Rockwall wrestlers Austin Barnes, Max White and Alex Cihak claimed berths Saturday to the University Interscholastic League State Tournament February 24-25 in Austin.

Barnes captured third-place honors in the 119-pound weight class, White nailed down fourth place in the 160-pound division and Cihak wrestled back for fourth in the 103-pound classification at the Region III Meet at Allen High School gymnasium to earn their ticket to state.

“They did a great job,” said head coach Bryan Ashford. “All three beat someone they had previously lost to in order to advance.”

Ashford has announced that he will step down after the state tournament to spend more time with his 7-month old daughter.

The top four individual finishers in each weight classification from each regional meet advance to state.

Rockwall came in ninth (72 points) out of 48 teams in the boys team standings.

Lake Highlands won the regional title with 121 total points, narrowly edging second-place Klein which totalled 120.5. Lake Highlands didn’t win a single individual title, but had six finish in the top four. Klein Oak and The Woodlands tied for third with 111 points each.

Rockwall also picked up points from Alex Hill in the 112-pound class, Eric Benitez in the 125-pound classification, Thomas Davis in the 152-pound division, Robert Carter in the 171-pound weight class and Gary Adams in the 180-pound division.
