Rockwall will bring its high-powered offense back to Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium for a football battle against undefeated Arlington Bowie on Friday.
The opening kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. for the 1-1 Jackets. The visiting Volunteers are 2-0.
Rockwall is averaging 54.5 points and 653 yards per game after falling 66-59 to No. 1 Highland Park and then winning 50-7 last week at Rowlett. The Jackets rolled up 562 yards of total offense in last week’s victory.
Sophomore quarterback Braedyn Locke was 15-of-30 passing for 382 yards and five touchdowns against the Eagles. So far on the young season, Locke is 45-of-77 passing for 951 yards and 10 touchdowns with just one interception. His quarterback rating is 136.4.
J.J. Williams led the Rockwall receivers against Rowlett with four catches for 164 yards and one touchdown.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught four passes for 90 yards and two TDs.
Brennan Ray and Kade Klinkovsky also caught TD passes. Khalil Catlett caught two passes for 64 yards.
Smith-Njigba leads the Jacket receivers for the season with 17 catches for 401 yards and five TDs.
Williams has caught five passes for 206 yards and two TDs. Zach Henry and Trevor Munson also have five catches.
Catlett led the Jacket rushers against Rowlett with 41 yards on nine carries.
Jalen McKay ran for 40 yards on seven carries.
Williams and Matthew Hejny rushed for touchdowns.
Zach Henry leads the Rockwall rushers for the season with 179 yards and three TDs on 25 carries.
Catlett is next with 41 yards and McKay ranks third with 40 yards.
The Jackets are facing a Bowie offense that is very balanced. The Volunteers are averaging 199.5 yards rushing and 185 passing per game.
Bowie quarterback Drevonn Ponder, a 6-0, 203-pound junior, is 15-of-22 passing for 370 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions and leads the rushers with 157 yards and three TDs on 22 keeps.
Marsaillus Sims, a 5-10, 215-pound senior running back, is next with 104 yards and two TDs on 24 carries.
D’Aunte Prevost has rushed for 73 yards and a score on nine carries.
Jimmy Valsin, a 6-3, 180-pound junior wide receiver, leads the Bowie receivers with eight catches for 247 yards and three TDs.
Rockwall won last year’s game over Bowie, 49-34, as Smith-Njigba had a big game with eight catches for 167 yards and three TDs.
