Elijah Thomas scored 23 points against Rockwall-Heath and 15 versus Wylie East over the last week to keep Rockwall in the playoff mix for District 10-4A.

Rockwall’s Yellowjackets took a giant step toward the hoops playoffs with a 55-47 win over Wylie East on Tuesday at RHS gymnasium.

RHS and East entered the key matchup tied for fourth place in the District 10-4A standings. The victory by Rockwall gives the Jackets sole possession of fourth place with four games remaining in regular season.

The Jackets finish out regular season with games against McKinney North (7-3), Richardson Pearce (3-7), Highland Park (10-0) and Wylie (2-8).

Against Wylie East, Rockwall carried a 27-23 lead into halftime and took it to the final buzzer.

Wes Davis celebrated his 18th birthday by knocking down a game-high 15 points, including two monster dunks.

Elijah Thomas put up 15 points as well and Austin Grandstaff gunned in 13 to lead the Jackets. Grandstaff also swished 4-for-4 free throws and Jared Ragland nailed 2-for-2 in the final 34 seconds to secure the victory.

In Friday’s 55-34 win over Rockwall-Heath the Jackets took a 10-3 early lead and never looked back.

Thomas led all scorers with 23 points and Grandstaff posted 13 points for RHS.

Heath was led by Cameron Martin with eight points, Christian Nwabuko with seven and Jared Webber with seven.

Heath followed with another loss on Tuesday, a heartbreaking double-overtime 66-60 defeat by Wylie that eliminated the Hawks from playoff contention.

Martin fired up 20 points, Nwabuko pumped in 16 and Matt Greene tossed up 10 points in the loss.
