Rockwall-Heath will host rival Rockwall in one of the key volleyball matchups in the Metroplex tonight, with the top spot in District 12-5A on the line.
Both teams are undefeated in district play, along with Mesquite Horn, heading into tonight’s games.
Rockwall tops the standings with its 4-0 record, with Heath and Horn both standing at 3-0.
The Lady Jackets enter the huge game after knocking off Longview 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) at RHS gymnasium last Friday and defeating Tyler Lee 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) on Tuesday in Tyler.
Heath bested Tyler Lee 3-0 (25-9, 26-24, 25-13) last Friday to go to 3-0 in district play.
Middle blocker Alex Nolan had eight kills and one block and outside hitter Haley Coleman had eight kills and 24 digs to lead the Hawks.
In non-district play on Tuesday, Heath lost to McKinney Boyd at the RHHS gymnasium 3-1 (14-25, 22-25, 25-21, 23-25).
The Hawks, playing without superstar Regina Tillis – out with a concussion – played Boyd tough all the way.
The Lady Broncos were on a roll and coming off a five-set win over defending state champion Coppell last Friday.
Boyd broke open a 9-9 tie in the first set and outscored Heath 16-5 for a 25-14 victory.
The Lady Broncos then edged the Hawks 25-22 in the second set in a close battle from the start before Heath won the third set 25-21 after breaking an 18-18 deadlock and rolling to the four-point win.
Boyd ran up a 23-19 lead in the fourth set before Heath evened the score at 23-23.
But, a big kill by Boyd and a shot into the net by Heath closed out the fourth set with Boyd taking the 25-23 win.
Coleman led the Hawks with 13 kills and one block, Aniah Philo posted 11 kills and one ace, Claire Carpenter ripped nine kills and one ace, Kailey Peters put up four kills and two blocks, Grace Howell had four kills and Nolan added one kill and three blocks.
