A packed house at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium in Rockwall is expected for the annual I-30 Football Classic on Friday that pits the 3-3 Rockwall-Heath Hawks against the 4-2 Rockwall Yellowjackets.

The opening kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. for the District 11-6A contest that features the two of the top Class 6A passers in the Dallas area. And both quarterbacks are sophomores.

Heath quarterback Josh Hoover is 119-of-187 for 2,047 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. Hoover’s completion percentage is 63.6 percent. He’s averaging 341.2 yards passing per game and has a passer rating of 123.0.

Heath leads the series 6-3 since 2008 though Rockwall won 47-7 last year. Rockwall also won 24-20 in 2013 and 52-51 in a thriller in 2010.

  The Hawks have won 28-27 in 2017, 34-27 in 2016, 45-12 in 2012, 21-13 in 2011, 55-38 in 2009 and 38-21 in 2008.

Heath is needing a district win after dropping its two 11-6A games by scores of 39-34 to Tyler Lee and 49-39 to Mesquite.

Rockwall bounced back from a 49-3 loss to defending state champion Longview in the district opener to whip Mesquite Horn 45-7 last week in Mesquite.

Both teams have some very productive receivers. Ohio State commit Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who sat out last week’s game with an injury, leads the Jackets (36-763, 11 TDs), followed by J.J. Williams (21-373, 3 TDs) and Trevor Munson (11-136). Smith-Njigba has been selected to compete in the All-American Bowl set for Jan. 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The game will be televised live on NBC.

The top Hawk receivers include Corban Cleveland (34-531), Jayden Jones (31-825), Casey Curtin (22-370) and Trey Graves (12-173).
