Krys Harber, shown here sprinting to the sideline, scored three touchdowns in HCA’s game against Abilene Christian on Friday at the Heath Turf Field.

The Heritage Christian Academy Eagles gave up 37 unanswered points to District 1 favorite Abilene Christian School after building a 24-0 first-period lead in Friday’s 45-38 loss to the Panthers at the Rockwall-Heath Turf Field.

HCA opened the action with a 1-yard TD run by Krys Harber, a 21-yard TD pass from Nathan Mateer to Aaron Mateer and a 50-yard scoring run by Harber to take an early 24-0 advantage after three Mateer (Aaron) 2-point kicks.

But, ACS answered with six points to close out the first quarter, 16 points in the second period and 15 points in the third for a 37-24 lead. The Panthers scored on a 3-yard pass, a 77-yard pass, a 41-yard pass and a 22-yard pass.

Heritage finally responded with a 5-yard TD completion from Austin Pettit to Asa Burke to narrow the gap to seven points at 37-30. ACS came right back, however, to score on an 8-yard pass from Shea Beltran to Bryton Fernandez for a 45-30 lead before Harber put up the final points on an 80-yard kick return.

Harber led HCA rushers with six carries for 60 yards and scored three touchdowns on runs of one and 50 yards and an 80-yard kick return.

Nathan Mateer finished the game 6-of-12 passing for 104 yards and one TD and Austin Pettit was 4-of-8 passing with one TD.
