Mesquite’s defense held Rockwall-Heath to just 41 yards and three first downs through the first three quarters of Friday’s district game, paving the way for the Skeeters to open a big lead and take a 39-14 win over the Hawks at E.H. Hanby Stadium in Mesquite.
The Skeeters (1-1, 3-3) rebounded from last week’s 69-17 loss in Longview while the Hawks (0-2, 4-2) lost for the second straight week following a 4-0 start. Mesquite built a 39-0 lead before Heath scored a pair of late touchdowns.
Horace LeBlanc III tossed two touchdown passes and Robert Blythe ran for two more. Shadavian Reed led all offensive players with 171 total yards, including a game-high 106 rushing. Heath’s backup quarterback Ryne Randle passed for a score and ran for another in relief of Jordan Hoy.
