Rockwall ISD had eight players named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Football Teams for 2019-2020.

The (THSCA) and the Texas Army National Guard recently announced the teams, which are selected by a point system that awards points for GPA, class rank and SAT or ACT score. The student/athletes or managers are then placed on teams according to the number of points they have earned. 

Jacob Edwards was named as part of the Elite team; Carter Chase, Derek Harris an Joseph Schaefer were named to the first team; Tyler Ashworth was named to the second team; and Kade Klinkovsky, Landon Gibson and Matthew Hejny received honorable mentions.

The Elite team represents the highest point total that can be achieved. Criteria required to be nominated is: must be a senior with an overall GPA of 92 or above, including grades 9-11 and the first six weeks of grade 12; be a member of the team in good standing at the time of nomination; be of good moral character. 

There are 3,457 student-athletes that made the Academic All-State football team.
