Spelling it right to the Rockwall County Spelling Bee were students from Rockwall ISD, and from the Home Education Associational Resources, Inc. (HEAR).

Winning the Bee, which is sponsored by the Dallas Morning News, was Mathew Hearn of Williams Middle School in Rockwall ISD.

He will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee, to be held on March 21.

The alternate will be Sudeshna Pontula, a HEAR student.

Spellers were from fourth through eighth grades, and in addition to the HEAR students, came from 12 Rockwall ISD elementaries, the two RISD middle schools.

They included: Erin Buttitta, Kenzie Chapa, Alexendria Sims, Komal Karelia, Evan Tolle, MacKenzie Mullins, Kyle Pliska, Lochlen Jones, James Clark, Donovan Webb, Rachel Farrow, Andrew Wilson, Harkiran Kaur and Alysha Joseph.
