Jim Woolard captured this image of a snow-covered landscape during the recent record snowfall in the area.

Perhaps the heaviest one-day snowfall in local history closed schools and offices across North Texas Friday, while also causing several accidents.

The National Weather Service indicated an amateur radio operator in Royse City reported 12 inches of snow on the ground as of 5:05 a.m. Friday. Large limbs, weighed down by the snow, were reported to have fallen on electric lines and to have caused power outages in the area.

Snowfall totals between nine and 12 inches were common across the region, bringing about the closure of schools and many offices, due to worries over driving across snow-covered roads.
