Children At Risk — a nonprofit education organization in Texas — recently released its second annual Texas School Guide, a compilation of school district rankings designed to help parents navigate the state’s public school network.

The guide ranks all public schools across Texas, using data obtained from the Texas Education Agency, and includes student achievement, campus performance and growth as factors in its grading process.

The Rockwall Independent School District came in at 126 among 953 districts in the state, achieving a score of 76.62 on a 100-point scale and receiving a letter grade of “A.” The Royse City Independent School District was 351 on the list, with a score of 58.77 and overall grade of “B.”

In Rockwall ISD, the two high schools — Rockwall and Heath — each received grades of “B+” while Cain Middle School (A-), Williams Middle School (B) and Utley Middle School (B-) received high marks.

RISD’s elementary campuses received “B” or better at eight of 12 campuses, led by Hartman, which received an “A+.” Following Hartman was Amy Parks (A), Nebbie Williams (A-), Reinhardt (B+), Hays (B+), Springer (B+), Pullen (B) and Dobbs (B). Cullins-Lake Pointe and Shannon each earned a “B-” while Jones (C) and Rochell (C-) received the lowest marks in the district.

Stevenson was not included in the report, since it is in its first year of operation.

Herndon Intermediate received the highest grade in Royse City ISD, with an “A-,” while Miss May Vernon Elementary was awarded a “B+.” Grades of “B-” were given to Royse City High School, Ruth Cherry Intermediate, Royse City Middle School and Fort Elementary.
