Rockwall city election

There will be only contested race for the five seats on the Rockwall City Council included in the May 1 municipal election.

There will be only contested race for the five seats on the Rockwall City Council included in the May 1 municipal election.

The election, will be for the purpose of choosing a mayor and council members in Places 1, 3, 5 and 6.

Incumbent Mayor Jim Pruitt and Place 3 Councimember Kevin Fowler have both served two consecutive two-year terms and are ineligible to run again, while Place 1 Councilmember Bennie Daniels and Place 5 Councilmember Dana Macalik are seeking reelection and are unopposed.

Incumbent Anna Campbell is also unopposed in seeking a one-year term in Place 6.

Kevin Fowler was the sole candidate to seek out the mayor’s post, while the Place 3 contest drew five candidates throwing their hats in the ring.

Clarence Joriff, Dennis Lewis, Jerry Welch, Priscylla Bento and Ronald Smith will be competing for the seat.

Feb. 12 was the deadline to file campaigns for the election.

Early voting is scheduled April 19-27.
