Longtime educator honored

Longtime local educator Lupe Garcia was on hand Monday as the Rockwall ISD board of trustees named the district’s newest elementary school in her honor. Steven Pesek, left, was named as the school’s first principal.

Rockwall’s newest elementary school has a name.

On Jan. 5 the Rockwall ISD board of trustees’ Naming Facilities Committee began accepting nominations for the designation of Elementary School 16 located at 310 Williamsburg Parkway in Fate. The new school is scheduled to open in August.

On Monday night the board voted to name the campus Lupe Garcia Elementary School, after the longtime classroom educator. Garcia’s career spans 40 years serving as a Dobbs ES teacher. The school will open in fall 2021.

During the same meeting Steven Pesek was named as the school’s first principal. Pesek has 19 years of public education experience, including five years as the principal of Shannon Elementary School.
