One of the most coveted boxing families in history will bring a boxing camp to the Rockwall Elite Boxing & Sports Performance facility July 26-27.
Floyd Sr., Roger, and Jeff Mayweather will host the Mayweather Boxing Camp to share their wealth of boxing knowledge and techniques. The family helped train one of boxing’s biggest names, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who has remained unbeaten in his 17-year career with 44 total wins and eight championships in five weight classes.
The camp will go from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday. It will feature training in both offensive and defensive skills, as well as sparring sessions with professional and amateur trainers. Floyd Sr. will coach those interested in sparring, working the corner between rounds.
Maria Reed of Rockwall Elite said the prime opportunity came about from one of the gym’s coaches.
“Many of our coaches have big connections,” she said. “One of them had a public relations connection with Floyd Sr. and they agreed to let us host the camp.”
Reed added that while the whole process went very fast, both sides carefully made the decision to hold the camp at Rockwall Elite.
“Not only did we have to choose them, but they had to choose us as well,” Reed said.
Boxers and coaches of any age and skill level are encouraged to attend the two-day camp, and no previous boxing experience is necessary to participate.
Registration is $375 for coaches and $475 for boxers, with a discount of $100 for those who sign up and pay in full by July 12. The deadline for registration is July 19.
Only 60 people can register to participate in the camp (20 coaches and 40 boxers).
Those interested in registering also have the option of putting down a $100 deposit to secure a spot, and the balance must be paid by July 26.
