Two new principals will take the head positions of two Rockwall Independent School District elementary schools in the 2006-2007 school year.
Sandra Whitley will be the principal of Grace Hartman Elementary School.
Angela Jarrett Marcellus will be the principal of Dorris A. Jones Elementary School.
For the past 11 years, Whitley has been involved in education with the Garland and Rockwall districts as associate principal of Rockwall High School, 2004 to present.
She was an assistant principal at Lyles Middle School in Garland from 1995 through 2004. At South Garland High School, she served as an administrative intern for the 2002-2003 school year.
She was a math, science, and technology magnet teacher from 1998 to 2002 at North Garland High School. She was a Sam Houston Middle School teacher in 2000, and a Lakeview Centennial High School teacher from 1995 to 1998.
Whitley believes her new position is a positive challenge to her experience, she said.
“My educational experience is broad, including working to align curriculum to join pre-kindergarten through grade 12,” Whitley said. “I have worked at the middle school and high school level, while maintaining communication with feeder elementary schools.
“I know the challenges our students face in secondary education and feel I am uniquely qualified to mold their educational experience at the elementary level to best prepare them for middle school, high school, and beyond.
“It is an exciting time for Rockwall ISD and I look forward to contributing to the district's continued success."
Marcellus has been involved in public education since 1993. She’s worked at Betty Best Elementary School in the Alief Independent School District.
She was the first and second grade teacher from 1993 to 1998. At the Honor Roll School in Sugar Land, she worked from 1998 to 2000 as administrator and supervisor.
She was a reading specialist at Blue Ridge Elementary School in Fort Bend ISD, during the 2000-2001 school year. For the past five years she has been an assistant principal in the Alief Independent School District.
Marcellus welcomes the new opportunity in Rockwall.
"I am excited and honored to be named the new principal of Dorris A. Jones Elementary School,” Marcellus said. “I look forward to complimenting and enhancing the wonderful things already taking place at Jones Elementary and Rockwall ISD."
