The City of Rockwall’s March retail food establishment code inspections showed that most establishments reviewed had few demerits, including Rockwall High School and Dorris A. Jones Elementary School.

Others, like KFC, has numerous demerits. The reports do not include a total score, rank or category of how well each entity did on its inspection. The City of Rockwall is preparing to list the retail food establishment inspection results with a score or rank on the City’s Web site at a later date. The scores for the March inspections were not available at press time. The results are as follows:

• Albertson’s, received three demerit points for evidence of insect contamination relating to “doors”, three demerit points for sanitizing of manual ware washing, and three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, was commended for its handling of food preparation for time and temperatures, nine total demerits, inspected March 22;

• Albertson’s deli, received four demerits in the “sound condition” category of personnel and handling, four demerit points for cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods, and three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, 11 total demerit points, inspected March 22;

• Albertson’s bakery, was commended on its property handling of food preparation regarding time and temperature and personnel and handling, received three demerits for toxic items not being properly labeled, stored or used and three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, six total demerit points, inspected March 22;

• Albertson’s meat and seafood, was commended for its preparation of food regarding time and cooking temperatures, received four demerit points for cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods and three demerit points for food contact sources of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, seven total demerit points, inspected March 22;

• Alexander Catering, received four demerit points for the personal handling, source requirements for cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods, three demerit points for the refrigerator not maintaining an adequate temperature, three demerit points for evidence of insect contamination and “holes” being present, and three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair; 13 total demerit points, inspected March 30;

• Arby’s, commended for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, gloves and hand sanitizer being available for the proper handling of ready-to-eat foods and the location of adequate hand washing area were listed but no demerit points were issued for the observances, three total demerit points, inspected March 15;

• BEP, received four demerit points for cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods, three demerit points for hand wash facilities with soap and towels, three demerit points for evidence of insect contamination, and three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, 13 total demerit points, inspected March 21;

• Burger King, was commended for its food temperature and properly calibrated and accurate, reported noted that hand sanitizer should be available or used as a second barrier for the proper handling of ready-to-eat foods but received no demerit points regarding the issue, three total demerit points, inspected March 6

• Catering Rodriguez, received two demerit points for hand wash facilities with soap and towels, two total demerit points, inspected March 30;

• Cantu #1, received six demerit points for manual ware washing and sanitizing and food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized, and good repair, received a total of six demerits, was commended for its food temperature and time requirements, which includes proper cooking temperatures, rapid reheating of food, and proper cooling of cooked and prepared food, six total demerit points, inspected March 30;

• Dho Garden, commended for times and temperatures of cooked foods and for personnel handling and hand washing, received three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, three total demerit points, inspected March 6;

• Diamond Shamrock, commended for times and temperatures of cooked foods, received four demerit points for labeling of hot-dogs, three demerit points for accessible hand washing facilities, three demerit points for toxic items not being properly labeled, stored or used, three demerit points for manual ware washing and sanitizing, three demerit points for proper disposal of approved sewage and wastewater disposal system, and three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, 19 total demerit points, inspected March 17;

• Dominos, received four demerit points for cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods, three demerit points for toxic items not being properly labeled, stored or used, three demerit points for manual ware washing and sanitizing at the proper temperature, three demerit points for food contact sources of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, reported notes that pest control needs to be done monthly and the hood should be cleaned as needed but received no demerits for either issue, 12 total demerit points, inspected March 6;

• Edo Hana, four demerits of approved source and labeling, four demerits proper handling of ready-to-eat foods regarding hand washing, four demerits for cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods, three demerit points for hand wash facilities with soap and towels regarding gloves, three demerit points for manual ware washing and sanitizing, three points for mechanical ware washing and sanitizing, and three points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleansed, sanitized, and good repair, 24 total demerit points, was commended for its rapid reheating of food and told to “watch” the proper cooling times and temperatures for cooked and prepared food, 24 total demerit points, inspected March 28;

• El Chico, commended for food time and temperature when preparing food, received three demerit points for food contact surfaces on equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized, and good repair, three total demerit points, inspected March 21;

• Dorris A. Jones Elementary School, commended on food cooking temperature and time requirements, received three demerit points for the back door showing evidence of insect contamination, three total demerit points, inspected March 20;

• KFC, received five demerit points for the “cold hold” category regarding cooking temperature and time requirements, four demerit points for cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods, four demerit points for low hot water pressure for water supply, approved source, sufficient capacity, hot and cold under pressure, three demerit points for the sanitizer not dispensing soap in the hand washing area, three points for evidence of “rodents,” and three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, report noted that the code requires a second barrier to touch ready-to-eat foods, 22 total demerit points, inspected March 8;

• Palateria, received three points for violations of the proper disposal sewage, wastewater disposal system, three total demerit points, was commended for its food temperature and time requirements, which includes proper cooking temperatures, rapid reheating of food, and proper cooling of cooked and prepared food, inspected March 29;

• Richards BBQ, commended on food cooking temperature and time requirements, received four demerit points for cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods regarding the hood, walls and paint, received three demerit points for evidence of insect contamination, three demerit points for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, gloves for proper handling of ready-to-eat foods was listed but a demerit was not issued for the matter, 10 total demerit points, inspected March 20;

• Rockwall High School, received three demerit points for the mechanical ware washing and sanitizing equipment registering at 200 degrees F, three demerit points in the proper disposal of sewage and its wastewater disposal system category, and three demerits for minor cleaning of filters, the ceiling tiles not being absorbent and food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, nine total demerit points, inspected March 28;

• Subway at Texas 205, commended on its properly handling of food preparation regarding time and temperature and personnel and handling, received three demerit points for toxic items not being property labeled, stored or used, three demerit points for food contact sources of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, and three demerit points for a current food establishment permit not being visible, nine total demerit points, inspected March 8

• Total Ridge #4526, commended on its properly handling of food preparation regarding time and temperature and personnel and handling, received three demerit points for food contact sources of equipment and utensils cleaned, sanitized and good repair, three total demerit points, inspected March 6.
