Downtown Rockwall soon will host another business with the arrival of Community BBQ.
Community BBQ will operate at 112 Rusk St. in the Downtown Rockwall Square.
Community BBQ was founded in Sachse in 2019 by Charlie Cheshire, the restaurant’s pit master. Andy Cheshire, Charlie’s son, is the current owner of the Rockwall location along with his wife, Grace.
As far as the restaurant’s quality of barbeque, Andy gives all the credit to his dad: “Charlie is a man with a gift, and when it comes to cooking with live fire and smoke, there isn't anyone better,” he said
“Relocating to Rockwall was one of the easiest decisions we've made…” said Andy Cheshire. “During our time in Sachse, we built relationships with the Rockwall Chamber of Commerce, bringing out our 36-foot BBQ trailer (The Chuck Wagon) for events honoring our military veterans and first responders. We've spent so much time in Rockwall over the past 20-something years, and a chance to be on the historic downtown square was just the icing on the cake. … We love being part of a close-knit community, and Rockwall is our kind of town.”
The restaurant has a tentative grand opening date set for Aug. 30.
“We're thrilled to be joining the downtown community, and we can't wait to start building relationships and serving people here in Rockwall,” said Andy Cheshire.
Kevin Weable, director of M&D Real Estate’s commercial division, said “Rockwall’s downtown area has continued to increase in popularity and has become even more of a great place to eat, shop, and hang out than ever before. Community BBQ will be an excellent addition to our downtown, and I look forward to them becoming a long-standing staple there.”
