February 12 is the first day to file for the City of Rockwall General Election on May 14. City Council places 1, 3 and 5 and the Mayor's seat will be on the ballot.


Council Members David Sweet (Place 1) and Glen Farris (Place 3) are eligible to run for an additional two-year term of office. Mr. Sweet announced this week that he will run for mayor, and Mr. Farris said he will seek reelection to his current position.


Mayor Bill Cecil and Council Member Matt Scott (Place 5) have both served the allowable number of terms under the City Charter and are not eligible to run in their current positions.


The last day for candidates to file for a place on the ballot is March 14 at 5 p.m.


Application packets are available from and paperwork must be filed with the City Secretary's office on the third floor of City Hall, 385 South Goliad St.


The city election will be administered by the Rockwall County Elections Administrator, and election information will be available on the county's website at www.rockwallcountytexas.com/elections.


Early voting will be held at the Rockwall County Elections office on the downtown square at 107 East Kaufman starting Monday, May 2 thru Tuesday, May 10 with early voting on Saturday, May 7.


Applications for ballots by mail must be requested from and mailed to the Rockwall County Elections Administrators Office, Attn: Glenda Denton, 107 East Kaufman, Rockwall TX 75087. Applications must be received no later than the close of business on May 6.
