Even as the last big voting cycle continues to wind down, it is already time for residents in the city of Rockwall to begin preparing for the first election of 2021.

Even as the last big voting cycle continues to wind down, it is already time for residents in the city of Rockwall to begin preparing for the first election of 2021.

The city of Rockwall Municipal election will take place on May 1. Early in 2021, the city council will formally call for the election, which will be for the purpose of choosing a mayor and council members in Places 1, 3 and 5.

Incumbent Mayor Jim Pruitt and Place 3 Councimember Kevin Fowler have both served two consecutive two-year terms and are ineligible to run again, while Place 1 Councilmember Bennie Daniels and Place 5 Councilmember Dana Macalik are able to seek reelection.

A one-year term for Place 6, currently filled by Anna Campbell, will also be on the ballot.

Candidates are able to file their campaigns staring Wednesday, Jan. 13 through Friday, Feb. 12.

Early voting is scheduled April 19-27.
