HEATH — Heath residents in January will begin receiving weekly “Front Porch Service” for household hazardous wastes. The city of Heath has partnered with HHW Solutions to collect items such as paint, insecticides, fertilizers and other household chemicals. These items are not accepted by regular trash collection services and are prohibited in landfills. In addition to collecting household hazardous wastes, citizens can also set out electronic items up to 50 pounds to be recycled.
Under the terms of the agreement, the city of Heath will pay 99 cents per home per month but only pass through 56 cents per household per month to the residents. The contract allows residents to get on the collection list each week, leave items on their porch on the collection day, and items will be removed by the end of the day. Residents do not need to be home for the collection to be completed.
An additional provision of the contract is that HHW Solutions will sponsor an annual “Paper Shredding Event.” This event will allow citizens to bring items to a central location for shredding. Shredded paper will then be recycled.
The new service is a three-year contract the city council unanimously approved. More information about the HHW Solutions service will be communicated in the coming weeks.
