COVID-19 restrictions at area businesses will remain in place, because of the increasing level of patients with the virus in regional hospitals.

The Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management was reporting Tuesday the number of COVID-19 hospitalized patients as a percentage of total hospital capacity in the 19-county Trauma Service Area North Texas had reached 24.6 percent as of Monday.

The latest report from the department indicated there had been 5,864 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of press time Tuesday, an increase of 1,146 cases in one week. The department’s report also noted there had been 5,110 recoveries, representing an increase of 636 individuals within the previous seven days.

Vaccinations of the COVID-19 vaccines are being distributed at three offices in Rockwall County — Baylor Scott and White Lake Pointe, Sandknop Health Group and the Healthcare Associates of Irving LLP office in the county. As of Tuesday, 1,239 vaccinations had been provided in the county.

There had been 49 deaths reported in the county as a result of COVID-19 as of Tuesday morning, three more than one week earlier, and representing 10 deaths from the virus in four weeks.

The Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management reported there were 126 people in the county’s hospitals suffering from COVID-19 as of Tuesday, including 14 patients in the ICU.

The Texas Department of State Health Services indicated there had been 51,192 COVID-19 tests conducted in the county as of press time Tuesday.
