Eighth annual JFS Memorial Volleyball Tournament honors memory of Jessica Shaw

ROCKWALL — The dates have been set for the 2012 JFS Memorial Volleyball Tournament, which includes both indoor and outdoor volleyball competition.  This is the 8th annual tournament held in honor of the memory of Jessica Shaw. The outdoor tournament will be played on Saturday, June 9, 2012, and the indoor event will be played on Saturday, June 23, 2012.

This volleyball tournament is held annually in honor of Jessica Frances Shaw, a 2004 Rockwall High School graduate who died in an automobile accident in August 2004.  Jessica was a four-year starter on the Rockwall High School volleyball team, where she earned numerous awards and honors.  Jessica was also a coach for several YMCA youth teams, and for the Club MVP volleyball team. Jessica’s number 10 volleyball jersey was retired and is on display in the trophy case at Rockwall High School. The Rockwall High School volleyball team presents an annual Jessica Shaw Award for “Leadership, Friendship, and Loyalty” at the end of each season. All proceeds from the outdoor tournament will go to the Jacket Backers for the benefit of the Rockwall High School volleyball team, while proceeds from the indoor tournament will help fund the YMCA’s Partner’s With Youth Program, which provides financial assistance for children who would not otherwise be able to participate in YMCA activities.

For the first time, the outdoor tournament will be played on sand courts, and will be held at the Oasis Beach and Tennis Club in Rockwall.  There will be three divisions of competition: a 4-on-4 coed recreational division; a 4-on-4 coed competitive division; and for the first time, a girls 2-on-2 division.  The tournament will be open to anyone from 9th grade through adult in all three divisions.  The Oasis Beach and Tennis Club is located at 5757 State Highway 205 in Rockwall, Texas.  Location maps and information about the facility are posted on their website at  The entry is $25 per player, and all participants will receive a tournament t-shirt.  To register a team for this tournament, please complete the online registration form at   For additional information, please contact Damon Wilson at 214-906-6439 or via email at
