RACE swimmers commit to NCAA programs

ROCKWALL — Eight senior swimmers from the class of 2014 who compete for the Rockwall Aquatic Center of Excellence (RACE) have committed to swim for NCAA programs during the 2014-2015 season.

Since its inception in 2009, RACE has grown to over 300 swimmers, ages 5 through 18 under the leadership of head coach and aquatics director Neil Walker.

The philosophy of the program is to instill a strong training and technique base, then develop that foundation through the end of high school when the swimmers will either move on to the next level of swimming in the NCAA, or enter adulthood with the skill and work ethic which will help them maintain a healthy lifestyle for years to come.

RACE swimmers committing to NCAA programs for the 2014-2015 season include Jared Butler (Texas), Hunter Arnold (Henderson State), Ethan Nicholson (Wayland Baptist), Wyatt Fannin (Adams State), Megan Conner (Oklahoma Baptist), Haylie Harbin (Air Force), Zoe Peak (Henderson State) and Collin Vu (Austin College).

“I’m very proud of these student-athletes who have committed to swimming at the next level in the NCAA. They are all ready for what lies ahead and I have confidence they will continue to improve and contribute to their respective collegiate teams,” said Walker, who himself earned 25 NCAA All-American awards and four Olympic medals while competing at the University of Texas.
