Herald-Banner Sports

Rockwall's Jacket baseballers locked down second place in District 10-5A after a 4-2 final district victory over Sachse on Friday.

The Jackets will take on Wylie for the Class 5A bi-district championship in a best-of-3 series this weekend. Game 1 is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. tonight at the Campbell Complex in Rockwall and Game 2 is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Wylie High School. If necessary, a third game will follow Game 2 in Wylie.

Rockwall (10-4,17-9) closed out regular-season play with six straight victories, including wins over Naaman Forest, Sachse and Allen last week.

Cody Fields pitched a 2-hitter in Tuesday's 3-1 win against Naaman at Campbell Field. He struck out 10 batters and gave up two walks while going the distance on the mound.

Jordan Hammontree and J.D. Deloach pounded doubles off Naaman ace Ty Herrick to lead Rockwall at the plate.

In Friday's final district win over Sachse the Jackets fell behind 2-0 before reeling off four unanswered runs to post the victory. Travis Ballew earned the win with a 2-hitter and nine strikeouts and Garrett Henderson sparked the offense with a double as Rockwall booked six hits.

The Jackets then defeated Allen 5-1 on Saturday in a last prep for the playoffs. Jonny Bertrand blasted a 2-bagger to lead Rockwall's offense, which put up five runs on six hits.
