Gymnasts earn all-state honors

GARLAND - Rockwall High School gymnasts Kenzie Hedges and Ben Barnard and Rockwall-Heath's Lori Williamson earned all-state honors with their performances at the State Gymnastics competition last Thursday-through-Saturday at the Garland Special Events Center.
Barnard finished fifth in the boys All-Around and fifth in Floor Exercises to earn all-state in both events, Hedges placed third in Vault for her all-state selection and Williamson was named for the honor with her fifth-place finish in Uneven Bars.
The Top-6 placers in the individual event finals are named to the all-state team in that discipline.
Bryan captured the boys team championship with 340.800 points over second-place L.D. Bell (333.525) and third-place Garland Lakeview (329.400). Rockwall chalked up 304.475 points for 10th place.
San Angelo Central racked up 231.475 points to win the girls team title, with Humble Kingwood second (229.000) and Keller third (227.875). Rockwall finished seventh with 225.325 points and Heath came in 12th with 220.550 points.
Nik Bosnyak of Hurst L.D. Bell won the boys All-Around and Lake Highlands Sarie Morrison claimed the girls All-Around.
After the conclusion of the state competition, Rockwall's Barnard and Heath's Randy Hill were selected to the Texas National Team (open to seniors only) which will compete for the national title in Memphis, Tennessee in late May.
