Heath qualifies 10 tracksters to regionals

MESQUITE - Rockwall-Heath will be sending six boys and four girls to the Region II Track and Field Meet in Denton based on their individual performances at the District 10-4A competition last Tuesday and Wednesday at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
The Top-3 finishers in each district event advance to the regional meet at the University of North Texas in Denton on April 25th and 26th.
Lady Hawk Sequeena Thomas qualified in two events with her second-place long jump of 17-06 1/4 and second-place triple jump of 38-01 1/4.
Nadia Thomas also earned a silver medal in the shot put with a heave of 34-06 and a ticket to Region II; Jasmine Williams finished third in the 100 with her time of 11.64 and third in the 200 with her 24.87 clocking; and Aly Coughlin ran a 2:25.52 in the 800 for the bronze medal and will carry the Lady Hawk banners along with Thomas (Sequeena), Thomas (Nadia) and Williams at Denton.
Travis Cunningham won the gold in the 400 (48.58), finished third in the 200 (22.01) and anchored the winning 4X400 relay team of Stephen Zivney, Adam Nedella, Desmon Randle and Cunningham (3:26.83) to spark the Hawks.
Logan Callier also captured gold and a regional berth in the high jump with his leap of 6-06; Darius Jones finished second in the 110 Hurdles (14.96); and Nedella claimed the bronze medal in the 800 with his 2:08.98 clocking as the Hawks advanced six to Denton.
Narrowly missing regional berths were Chris Buttermore (4th in the discus), Jean-Luc Motlagh (4th in the shot), Cameron Wilson (4th in the high jump) and the second-place 4X200 relay team of Matt Tanner, Jesse Irokwe, Motlagh and Jones, which was disqualified for running out of lane.
Heath's boys racked up 91 points, even with the relay disqualification, to finish fourth in the team standings. Forney won the team title with 128 points, Poteet finished second with 113 and Terrell third with 95.
In the girls division Forney put up 164 points to claim the championship, Highland Park booked 123 for second, Poteet posted 120 for third, Terrell 72 for fourth and Rockwall-Heath recorded 63 points for fifth place.
