GARLAND - Rockwall’s Lady Jackets split a pair of district softball games last week, but maintained their hold on third place in the District 10-5A standings.
The Lady Jackets ran roughshod over Sachse 11-0 on Tuesday, outhitting the Lady Mustangs 15-4 at Rockwall’s Campbell Complex.
Laycee Holcomb recorded the 4-hit win on the mound and also helped her cause with a double at the plate.
Kat Brown hit her third home run of the season and Regina Vehslage, Shelby Frierson and Haley Lemons pounded triples to lead Lady Jacket batters.
Holcomb then took the 7-1 loss on Saturday at the Garland Softball Complex against undefeated district-leader Garland (8-0), which scattered 12 hits to Rockwall’s five.
The Lady Jackets put the ball in play against all-state pitcher Tomi Garrison and the 2-time state champion Lady Owls, but could only get one run across the plate.
Rockwall struck first in the top of the third inning when a Holcomb single between first and second bases scored Amanda Harmon for a 1-0 Lady Jacket lead.
But, Garland answered quickly in the bottom of the third when Garrison drilled a double to score two runs and FraShekia Knight belted a single to bring in Garrison and give the Lady Owls a 3-0 advantage.
Garland went on to book three more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the victory and remain on top of the 10-5A standings.
Rockwall left six runners stranded with two in the first and one in the second, third, sixth and seventh innings.
Holcomb led Lady Jacket hitters with two singles and an RBI and Frierson, Christina Hinton and Kiely Harrison posted singles.
Garland holds first place in 10-5A with its 8-0 record, Rowlett is second (7-1), Rockwall third (5-3) and Lakeview and Sachse are tied for fourth with 3-4 records.
Rockwall was scheduled to take on Lakeview in Garland on Tuesday and meets second-place Rowlett tonight at the Campbell Complex.
