Jane Taylor
Jane Hurst Taylor, daughter of Guy and Annie Laurie Hurst of Union Valley and Greenville, peacefully passed away on June 24, 2008, at the age of 82.
She was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Hunt County. Jane was married to Bowman G. Taylor of Greenville for 53 years. Her roots in Hunt County ran deep — she was the granddaughter of Judge N. E. Peak, and granddaughter to Mary Shaw Hurst, the first white woman born in Hunt County, when the early 1800s saw mostly Indians and settlers. The Hurst family was one of the founding settlers of Union Valley, and Mr. and Mrs. Taylor made their residence on the family ranch upon his retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Ann Neighbors of Houston; brothers Guy Hurst of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Fred Hurst of Mesquite.
She leaves behind one daughter, Janet Atkins of Union Valley; one grandson, Matthew Dellinger of Allen; and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Jackson. Also, left behind are Beth Randall, her sister from Irving, and Joe Hurst, a brother from Houston, along with many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 1 p.m., July 1, in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel, Greenville, with Rev. Bob Ferguson and Rev. Ricoh Saucedo officiating. Burial followed in Royse City Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Hernandez officiating. Pallbearers were Jay Atkins, Alan Hurst, Keith Hurst, Glen Hurst Neighbors, Steve Neighbors, and Cliff Randall.
