Obituaries for the week of March 7

Rev. Roger Hedstrom



Rev. Roger Hedstrom, age 64, of Mesquite died Feb. 28, 2008.

He was born July 9, 1943, in Berkeley, Calif. Rev. Hedstrom was a minister in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, serving congregations in California and Arizona.

He is survived by his son, Andrei Hedstrom and wife Sherry of San Francisco, Calif.; daughters Christina Hedstrom of Burlingame, Calif., and Deidre Meitus of Denver, Colo.; parents Ralph and Phyllis Hedstrom of Rockwall; a sister, Patricia Lemons and husband Reed of Rockwall; and grandchildren Rainey Hedstrom, Alexander Meitus, and Andrew Meitus.

Rev. Hedstrom was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne.

Memorial services were held at 2:30 p.m., March 1, 2008, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3003 Horizon Road, Rockwall, TX 75032 with Pastor Paul Ferguson and Rev. Richard Mayerhoff officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to LCMS Seminary, 1333 S. Kirkwood Road, St. Louis, MO 63122-7295.

Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall chapel was in charge of arrangements.



J.O. Seabourne



J.O. Seabourne, 80, of Royse City died Feb. 29, 2008.

He was born April 2, 1927, in Wylie to Charles and Valerie (Turner) Seabourne. Mr. Seabourne served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the management team at Texas Aluminum Company for many years. He was devoted to his family.

Mr. Seabourne is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Wilson of Dallas; a son, Perry Seabourne and wife Tina of Gun Barrel City; grandchildren Kelly and Jennifer Wilson; and sister Juanita Ussery of McKinney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlotte; and brothers Noble, Leo and Hoyle Seabourne.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., March 6, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel with Jessie Crouch officiating.



Telesia Robertson



Telesia Marnese Robertson, 40, of Forney died Feb. 29, 2008.

She was born May 26, 1967, in Memphis, Tenn., to Billy C. and Irene (Jones) Rodgers. Telesia received her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Technology School and worked as a nurse at the Dallas County Jail.

She is survived by her husband, Eric Robertson of Forney; her mother, Irene Conley; her father of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Sammesha Watson of Forney; sons Terrance and Tederic Rodgers of Memphis; sisters Loritha Rodgers, Lachar Williams, and Elainer Williams-Ferguson and her husband Turiko, all of Memphis; a brother, Billy C. Rodgers Jr. and wife Latosha of Memphis; a grandmother, Dorothy Rodgers of Memphis; sisters-in-law Jennifer Robertson and Tipphany Fuller and husband Rickey, all of Tyler; grandchildren Terrance Guy, Terreon Rodgers, and Temya Williams; great-great-aunt Elnora McPherson of Memphis; numerous nieces and nephews, a host of family and friends, and dearest friend Tandra (Faye) Akins.

Funeral services are at 10 a.m today at Forest Hill Funeral Home in Memphis, Tenn., under the direcation of Forest Hill Funeral Home.

Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall chapel was in charge of local arrangements.



Dora Barnes



Dora Nell Barnes, 63, of Garland died Feb. 28, 2008.

She was born Dec. 20, 1944, in Mead, Okla., to Leon Victor and Dorothy Nell (Shaw) Barnes. Dora was am LVN and a lifetime member of Pleasantview Baptist Church. She was a loving sister, friend, and favorite aunt, and was affectionately known as “Sarge.”

Dora is survived by her sisters, Rita Robertson amd husband Billy Joe of Mesquite, Barbara Baker and husband Johnny of Rowlett, Margaret Barnett and husband Jim of Paris, Alyce Peterman of Forney and Judy Sullivan of Rowlett; 20 nieces and nephews, and numerous grandnieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nieces Amy and Sally.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., March 3, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall chapel. Interment followed in Rest Haven Memorial Park.



Bennie Owens



Bennie Delean Pickens Owens of Rockwall went to be with the Lord March 2, 2008, at her home following a battle with lung cancer. She was born March 17, 1929, in Greenville, daughter of Ben and Ruby Newman Pickens.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., March 5, in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel, Greenville, with Dr. James Ralson officiating. Burial was in Merit Cemetery in Merit.

Mrs. Owens is survived by her husband, Ernest J. Owens of Rockwall; daughters Brenda Smith and husband Danny of Terrell, Deborah Gutierrez and husband Carlos of Sadler, Nancy Enos and husband Ricky of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Cindy Platt and husband Bobby of Sadler; sisters Sherrell Scism of Phoenix, Ariz., and Nancy McCoy of Haltom City; a sister-in-law, Marie Byrd of Georgetown; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Newman Pickens Stanford; her father; sons Earnest G. Owens and Benjamin S. Owens; a grandson, Andrew C. Latimer; brothers Edwin Byrd, Quincy Byrd and J.W. Stanford; and a sister, Dorothy Stanford Belcher.

Leona Lunsford



Leona Arlene Smith Lunsford, 89, of Rowlett, formerly of Greenville died the night of March 1, 2008, at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett. Funeral services were at 10 a.m., March 5, in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Royce Litchfield officiating. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Wolfe City.

Daughter of Lon Isaac and Minnie Wilson Smith, she was born July 29, 1918, in Cumby. She was married to Bud Thomas Lunsford on Sept. 11, 1936, in Greenville. Mrs. Lunsford was a master pattern maker and seamstress. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church and was a member of Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are a daughter, SuLaine Callaway and husband Wendell of Rockwall; a brother, Lonny Smith of Cumby; sisters Doris Canaan and Frances Freeman of Dallas and Margaret Rhodes of Celina; grandchildren Heath Tow and wife Sarah of St. Charles, Ill., Colby Tow and fiancé Jeanette Bowes of Houston and Kristin Walker and husband Charles of Ennis; and great-grandchildren Delilah and Everleigh Tow of St. Charles, Ill., and Ruby Laine Walker of Ennis.

Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2002.

Pallbearers were Wendell Callaway, Rod Allen, Heath Tow, Colby Tow, Charles Walker and Joe Tow. Honorary pallbearer was Gary Allen.
