Elected officials from across Rockwall County will come together May 7 for the City of Rockwall’s annual Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast, an event that commemorates the annual National Day of Prayer.
The mayors’ event will take place at 7:30 a.m. at The Center in Downtown Rockwall, 108 E. Washington St.
A second opportunity for the Rockwall County community to come together will be available later that day during the Community Noontime Prayer.
This event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rockwall City Hall, 385 S. Goliad St. Pastors and community leaders will be offering prayers during this time.
National Day of Prayer dates back to the first Continental Congress in 1775 and was called again by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. Congress established the day as an annual event by joint resolution, signed by Harry Truman in 1952.
Ronald Reagan would later designate the Thursday in May as the official date for National Day of Prayer.
