Most Rockwall County cities reporting sales tax gains

Most cities in Rockwall County are reporting gains in sales tax collections this month, with the exceptions of Royse City and Mobile City.

Mobile City was the only reporting outlet in Rockwall County to report significant declines in sales tax rebate revenue for both the month of June and for the year so far, according to the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

The June sales tax rebate payments represent each city's portion of sales taxes collected at local businesses in April and reported to the Comptroller's office in May. Sales taxes are one of the two main sources of revenue, along with property taxes, which feed a city's general fund.

The City of Rockwall received a sales tax rebate payment of $1,030,022.60 this month, representing an increase of 7.41 percent from the $958,878 .74 it collected in June 2008. Rockwall collected $889,508.11 in June 2007. So far this fiscal year, Rockwall has collected about $6.64 million in sales tax revenue, an increase of 2.92 percent from the $6.45 million it had received through June of last year. Rockwall had taken in $5.7 million through June 2007.

Mobile City received a sales tax rebate payment of $5,165.70 this month, down 13.41 percent from the $5,966.16 the city collected in June of last year. Mobile City received $8,928.59 in June 2007. Through June, Mobile City has claimed $34,560.63, a decrease of 30.51 percent from the $49,736.93 in sales tax revenue collected through June of last year. Mobile City had taken in $55,879.19 by the same point in 2007.

Royse City received a sales tax rebate payment of $67,593.10 this month, representing an 11.6 percent drop from the $76,466.09 in sales tax rebate revenue collected in June 2008. Royse City received $83,267.56 the city in June 2007. Through June, Royse City had received $530,164.02, a boost of 2.61 percent from the $516,634.54 collected through June 2008 and also above the $525,200.97 the city had collected through June 2007.

Fate received $16,185.57 in sales tax rebate revenue this month, up 22.34 percent from the $13,229.97 the city collected in June 2008. The City of Fate received $9,840.55 in June 2007. For the fiscal year so far, Fate has taken in $144,173.39, representing an increase of 26.47 percent from the $113,997.91 the city had collected through June 2008 and well above the $86,179.88 it had received through the same point two years ago.

Heath received $48,445.60 for the month of June, an increase of 8.71 percent from the $44,562.04 received in June of last year. The City of Heath had collected $41,173.28 during June 2007. So far this fiscal year, Heath has collected $343,503.04, an a decrease of 1.95 percent from the $350,359.30 the city had taken in through June 2008, but above the $318,261.10 it had received through June 2007.

McLendon-Chisholm received $620.90 this month, representing an increase of 50.02 percent from the $413.87 the city had collected in June 2008. McLendon-Chisholm has collected $4,247.99 so far this fiscal year, a decrease of 10.16 percent from the $4,728.50 in sales tax revenue it had collected through June 2008 and also below the $4,270.87 it had taken through the same point two years ago.
