School district names Teachers of the Year
The Rockwall Independent School District has announced the 2008 Teachers of the Year. Seventeen teachers, one representing each campus, have been selected by their peers and colleagues for the honor. The Teacher of the Year recognition program is a partnership between RISD and the Rockwall Breakfast Rotary.
After each campus makes their selection, the honorees are interviewed by a panel of Rotary Club members. The panel of judges is responsible for choosing one overall elementary honoree and one overall secondary honoree from the group. The overall teachers of the year will be announced at the Employee Recognition and Awards on May 20.
Each of the teachers will be honored with a dinner on May 19 followed by the RISD Board of Trustees meeting.
The Teachers of the Year are as follows: Amanda Rochell Elementary, Jennifer Garrett, 5th grade math; Amy Parks-Heath Elementary, Deanna Long, 5th grade; Celia Hays Elementary, Diane Maldonado, 6th grade science/social studies; Doris Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary, Kirsten Golden, 2nd grade; Dorothy Smith Pullen Elementary, Debbie Thompson, ESL grades K-6; Dorris A. Jones Elementary, Jeanne Bello, Kindergarten; Grace Hartman Elementary, Staci Hiberd, Language Science; Howard Dobbs Elementary, Christi Gates, Art; Nebbie Williams Elementary, Lana Edwards, 1st grade; Ouida Springer Elementary, Clint Wilcox, 3rd grade; Sharon Shannon Elementary, Juli Henderson, 1st grade; and Virginia Reinhardt Elementary, Paula McClendon, SAGE (Gifted & Talented).
