Joy Lutheran hosts blood drive



Joy Lutheran Church is having a blood drive from 3 to 5:30 p.m. April 19, with Carter Blood Care bringing its blood mobile to the chruch parking lot at 302 N. Goliad, next to the courthouse. Each donor gets a free cholesterol test and a t-shirt. “We feel like its important to have enough blood ready for the community,” said Charles Mansfield, speaking for the small congregation. They have the blood drive twice a year.



Rockwall Ministerial Alliance to meet



Rest Haven Funeral Home will provide the program and lunch for the April 23 meeting of the Rockwall Ministerial Alliance. The meeting, held at Lake Pointe Church in Room A-122, will begin at noon. A discussion, facilitated by Rest Haven Funeral Home, will address funeral ethics, and concerns and frustrations for a pastor dealing with a death. RSVP for lunch to 972-771-5526 (First Christian Church) by Monday April 21.



Fate city workers organize benefit



Fate citizens are rallying around one of their own who needs help covering medical bills for cancer. On April 19 at the Community Center in Fate, the public is invited to an afternoon and evening of music, auction, poker tournament, karaoke and bounce houses. Donations for the auction are being accepted now. To help out public works director Stacy Burns and his wife Susanne, please call event organizers at 214-808-1214 or 469-261-3223.



Master Gardeners to host tour



On May 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Annual Tour of Gardens will be hosted by the Rockwall County Master Gardener Association. Seven gardens, including those in historic Rockwall and those along the lakeshore, will be visited to “inspire ideas or just to enjoy.” Gardens range from those in dense shade to full sun, and include a large variety of native plants and perennials well-adapted to this area. The Master Gardeners’ own experimental/teaching Discovery Garden has several new additions and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and present demonstrations. For tickets, which arae $8, or information one should contact the AgriLIFE Extension office at 972-882-0375.
